Introduction

Our customer had the task of measuring the vibration level that an aircraft engine and dashboard parts would be exposed to during ground and air transportation. The main goal was to protect valuable products from sharp blows.

They measured the vibration levels during the transportation by air and ground transport with RL-R17 and analyzed the resulting data.

For the test, it was decided to use props. Its mass, dimensions, and physical properties corresponded to the mass, dimensions, and physical properties of the product it substituted for.

RL-R17 was mounted to the object surfaces with four M5 DIN912 bolts through holes in the corners of the device.

The recorder was installed in each container for transporting the components for the aircraft. The customer decided to activate the continuous recording. This mode of RL-R17 provided storing of all acceleration data.

Each container under test was placed on a vibrating table and subjected to vibration with a frequency varying at a constant speed in the range from 3 to 100 Hz.

The recorder saved all information to the embedded memory. After the tests, records from RL-R17 were then sent to the computer and analyzed using the VisShock software. It provided the graph display and data analysis.

Additionally, the customer used the shock-event recording mode of RL-R17. In this mode, only the acceleration values exceeding the user-defined trigger level are recorded. Each shock event includes a user-defined time interval before and after the shock.

The RL-R17 saved only the relevant information to the embedded memory. All accelerations below the defined trigger level were ignored. When the shock level was above the trigger threshold the LED indicator on RL-R17 blinked red for visual control.

You can see the graph representation of one of the shocks on the screenshot from VisShock Software. Additional shocks recorded are also displayed on the left side of the window.

With the help of the RL-R17, the engineers detected that the cargo has been securely fastened in the containers and can withstand the loads during transportation by land and air transport.

Conclusion
Before transporting valuable industrial cargo by air or land, we recommend providing vibration tests. It will help you find out if the cargo will reach its destination safely. RL-R17 is suitable for these tests. Additionally, the recorded can be used in many spheres such as aerospace and defense.
